PHIPPS, BRANDON, LEE, age 30, of Pelham, Tennessee, passed away Monday, March 4, 2013 at his home. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bobby Phipps; grandmother, Sherry Bradford. He loved being outdoors enjoying nature and loved to hunt and fish. Survivors include his parents, Randall Keith Pelham, Karen Phipps, Decherd; Cynthia Lee Clouse, Shelbyville; brother, Hunter Phipps; sister, Nikeithia Guyear; grandmother, Katherine Phipps Crownover, Pelham; grandfather, Marshall Bradford, Shelbyville; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 7 in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Rodney Cain officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery. NUNLEY, LAVONA, WATLEY, age 75, a former resident of Grundy County, passed away February 24, 2013 in Cedar Park, Texas. She was a daughter of Thelma and Grady Watley. Survivors include her children, Gina (John) Alligood, Alan Nunley, Jill (Mark) Smith; four grandchildren, three sisters, and a brother. Her cremains will be placed next to her parents at Monteagle Cemetery at a date to be announced. The family has requested memorials be made to the Corticobasal Foundation (800-457-4777). CREIGHTON, STACY, D., 46, of Altamont, TN, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from injuries he received in an automobile accident. He was employed by Nissan in Smyrna, TN. He was born on May 08, 1966 and was preceded in death by his father, Dick Creighton. Survivors include his mother, Loretta Creighton; sister, Bethany Berry; niece, Alazae Berry; nephew, Cortez Berry; uncle, Nick (Darla) Creighton; cousins, Charity (Martie) Anderson and Aaron (Shanna) Creighton; special friend, Johnny (Katherine) Wilkins; several other friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 9 in the funeral home chapel. Burial was in Fall Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

WINTON, WILLIAM, JONATHAN, 24, of Altamont, TN, died Monday March 4, 2013 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale Winton and Gail Hobbs.  He is survived by his grandmother, Oma Lee Hobbs; sister, Melissa Nicole Lockhart; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were held Friday, March 8 at the Little Creek Baptist Church on Colonel Brady Road in Altamont with Pastor Dal Barrett officiating. Burial was in Little Johnny Myers Cemetery. PARKS, PAUL, K., age 85, of Pelham, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at his home. He was a son of the late Fred A. Parks and Grace Payne Parks and was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Parks; wife, Willie Mae Parks; second wife, Abbie Layne Parks. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Roy Swisher of Franklin, KY; step-sons, Allan, Danny and Russell Layne; brother, Fred B. “Pink”  (Billie) Parks, Monteagle; sister, Tommye Dugger, Antioch, TN; grandchildren, Thanh, Ben and Rachel; great grandchildren, Prah, Cailynn and Kai; nephews, Terry and Danny Parks; nieces, Peggy Alsup and Robin Bailey. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 9 in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Robert Cain and family members officiating. GREEN, SHIRLEY, F., of Palmer, TN, 71, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at her home. She was born October 6, 1941 to Joe and Clara Griffith Ashburn who preceded her in death along with her husband, William “Red” Green; brother, Everett Ashburn. She is survived by her son, Allen (Debra) Green; daughters, Lynn (Grady) Davis and Missy Green Powell; grandchildren, Bobby Dan Green, Brandy Franklin, Jacob Green and Krista Powell; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Adams, Ninnie “Tuffy” Morrison, Jackie Pickett, Barbara Stephenson and Jane Rankin. KERN, JEFFERY, ALLEN, age 51, of Monteagle, Tennessee, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, in Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, a son of the late Jim Kern and Charlene Hayes Kern. Survivors include his wife, Marsha Kern; children, Eric Kern of Monteagle, Jessica (Billy) Anderson, Tracy City, Josh (Melody) Kern of Manchester; brothers, Mike Kern, Indiana and Scott Kern, Ohio; sister, Vicky Roughton, Ohio; grandchildren, Kaylee, Emma, Ashlynn, Nick, Abigail and Amelia. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 12 in the funeral home chapel. Burial was in Monteagle Cemetery. WOMACK, WILLIAM, GILLIAM, (BILL), age 74, of Nashville, TN, passed away March 10 from complications of a stroke. Born August 14, 1938, in Pelham, TN, he was the son of the late Alice Gilliam Womack and Junius Vernon Womack of Pelham, TN. He graduated from Grundy County High School, The University of the South at Sewanee, TN., and Suffolk University Law School, Boston, Massachusetts.  He practiced law in Nashville for many years. He was dedicated to the service of the United States of America serving as a member of the U. S. Navy Reserve for over 27 years retiring with the rank of Commander. He served in a number of active duty stations both in the United States and abroad and was the recipient of the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Joint Service Commendation Medal. Gardening, history and telling stories of the “old” days were his favorite past times. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, Nashville. He was preceded in death by his sister Kay Womack.  He is survived by sisters Mary Joe Taylor (Bob) of Cleveland, OH, Sheila Womack, of Cleveland, OH, and brother, Bruce Womack of Meridian, MS., wife, Carolyn (Lynn), sons, John B. Womack of Dallas, TX, and William G. Womack, Jr. (Gina) of Vienna, VA, and daughter, Anne Womack Kolton (Chad) of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren Andrew Womack, Kristen Womack, Jack Kolton, Kate Kolton and Lucy Kolton, and several nieces and nephews.  The Funeral Mass will be Thursday, March 14, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Henry Church with Rev. Michael Johnston, Pastor, presiding. Burial will be at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, McCrory Lane. The family wishes to thank the staff of West Meade Place for their care and kindnesses during this time.  Memorial donations may be made to the St. Henry Church Ministry to the Sick. BEZOLD, MILDRED, PAULINE, WISE, age 91, of Monteagle, TN, went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Winchester, TN. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ruby Weathers Wise and was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Bezold; sisters, Virginia Long and Juanita Wise; and brother, Doug Wise. Survivors include sisters, Edith Hasty of Estill Springs, TN, Arlene Callaway of Jasper, TN; brothers, Gary Wise of Tullahoma, TN; Tommy Wise and Steven Wise, both of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Wise of Chattanooga, TN. A graveside service was held Wednesday, March 13 at Monteagle Cemetery with Pastor Martin Nutter officiating. TURLEY, WILLIAM, “PORKEY,” age 48, of Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Emerald Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee, TN. He is preceded in death by his mother, Eliza Faye Turley; uncle, Bobby Bateman; aunt, Francis Sanders. Survivors include his father, William Turley, Jr., Tracy City, TN; brother, Michael Turley, Tracy City, TN; sisters, Judy Cagle, Gruetli-Laager, TN; Brenda Andrews, Tracy City, TN; Sandy Turley, Tracy City, TN; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 13 in Foster and Lay Chapel with Reverend Billy Bice and Reverend Ralph Shrum officiating. Burial was in Hobbs Hill Cemetery.
