Preparations have begun for the 17th Annual National Cornbread Festival, which will be held here April 27 and 28. Activities for the festival are held in the beautiful downtown area of South Pittsburg, with cornbread cook-offs, arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, all day entertainment, children’s corner, agriculture displays, a historic tour of homes via a double-decker bus and a full midway style carnival.
A 5-K Road Race will kick off the festival on Saturday, April 27 at 7:00 a.m. The 4-H cook-off competitions follow at 9:30 a.m., with The National Cornbread Cook-off beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the competition area on 2nd Street. Weekend long activities include singers, dancers, buttermilk chugs, dry cornbread eating and ice cream eating contests at Citizens Park Stage on 4th Street and in the newly renovated Princess Theater. Be sure to visit Cornbread Alley, where customers buy and sample nine different cornbread dishes. Great activities are available for the entire family throughout the weekend.
