LOCKHART, JOHN, WILLIE, 83, of Murfressboro, Tennessee, passed away at his home Thursday, January 10, 2013. He was born in Altamont, Tennessee on May 9, 1929 to Allen and Octa Whitman Lockhart who preceded him in death along with his brothers, C.B. “Kink” and George “Buck” Lockhart; sister, Charity Norris. He is survived by his wife, Margaret McCutcheon Lockhart; daughters, Karen Myers and Kathy Davis of Murfreesboro; sons, Keith (Gail) Lockhart, Marietta, GA, Kenneth (Kelly) Lockhart, Murfreesboro and Karl (Myra) Lockhart of Randolph, AL; sisters, Geneva “Sister” Campbell, Stella Sennens Turner and Veola Hiett; brothers, Andy (Blondell) Lockhart; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, January 14 in the funeral home chapel. Burial was in Altamont Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.
MEEKS, WILLIE, DEE, 76, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013. He was the owner operator of Meeks Service Station in Gruetli-Laager locally known as the “Pentagon.” He was a member of the Collins Church of Christ and was born in Palmer on March 27, 1936 to Elihugh and Alma Jean Meeks who preceded him in death along with his sister, Shirley Joyce Meeks. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Layne Meeks; daughter, Teresa (Richard) Layne; sons, Jimmy (Debbie) Meeks, Anthony Meeks and Rick (Laura) Meeks; sisters, Carol Long and Wilma Condra; grandchildren, Kyra (Billy) Campbell, Brandon Layne, Deanna Meeks, Hayden Meeks and Morgan Meeks; step-grandchildren, Shelbi (Labron) Graham, Colby and KayLee Newsom; great grandchildren, Destiny Campbell and Brevin Layne. Funeral services were held Monday, January 14 in the funeral home chapel with Nathan Sanders and Phillip Fults officiating. Burial was in Fall Creek Cemetery. GREEN, KENNETH, age 73, of the Pryor Ridge community in Tracy City, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 in Park Ridge Medical Center in Chattanooga. He was a retired coalminer, son of the late Dan Green and Amanda O’Neal Green. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phylis Green; sister, Annie Shrum. Survivors include his children, Tommy Green, Linda Green, Darrin (Paula) Hampton; brothers, Ronald Green and Billy Green; sisters, Faye Pistol, Mary Morgan, Christine Parson, Freda Lowrie and Barbara Myers; grandchildren, Renee, Mandy, Malinda, Jessica, Bradley, and Miranda; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 15 in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Ben Curtis officiating. Burial was in Plainview Cemetery. LAYNE, MARVIN, LEON (MART), age 54, of Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012 at his residence. He was a skidder operator in the timber business and was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy Layne and Margie King; sister, Teresa King; brother-in-law, Gary Sanders and many friends. Survivors include his loving wife, Mrs. Darlene Layne of Manchester, TN; children, Bobby Layne and Bambi Layne; brothers, Clell Lindon Layne, Tracy City; Thomas Layne, Gruetli-Laager; sisters, Mrs. Cindy Borne, Gruetli-Laager; Zonia Sanders and Rosie Anderson, both of Altamont; brothers-in-law, Hank King, Irving College, TN; Donny Bonner, Gruetli-Laager; uncles, Kenneth and Randell King, both of Gruetli-Laager, TN; Aunt, Gay King, Gruetli-Laager, TN; grandmother, Mrs. King, Gruetli-Laager, TN; many nieces and nephews. DYE, MICHAEL, SEAN, age 47, of Arlington, Texas, died on January 10, 2013 at his home. He was born March 17, 1966 in Abilene, TX and was preceded in death by his grandparents, Allie Tate and Andrew Anderson of Tracy City; mother, Jean Anderson Dye; and brother William Kendall Cleek, II. He was a carpenter and worked with his brother in the Arlington, Texas area. Survivors include his children Sean and Alyssa, Arlington; his father, Ben Dye, Abilene; sisters, Melanie (Jerry) Ray, Kim (Roger) Blackwell, Abilene; Jeannie (Carl) Kilgore, Tyler, TX; brothers, Rob (Debbie) Cleek, Monteagle and David (Janelle) Cleek, Paris, TX; aunts, Carolyn Anderson Patterson of Woodstock, GA, and Linda Anderson Alsup of Tracy City; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Dye requested that his body be cremated and a memorial service will be held in the spring in Tracy City with interment in the family plot in Plainview Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin D. and Doris Smartt; son, Dusty Smartt; brothers, James David Smartt and Marvin Mitchell Smartt. Survivors include his son, Terry Ryan Smartt; daughters, Lora Smartt and Patricia Smartt, both of Whitwell; brothers, Timothy Smartt, Stevenson, Alabama; sisters, Suzette Hargis, Rose Copeland, Patricia Moore, Judy Smartt, and Connie Sanders; several grandchildren. ROLLINS, DOROTHY, MARIE, 75, went to sleep in the arms of Jesus Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at her home. She was born in Palmer, Tennessee on June 20, 1937 to Ralph and Marlee Campbell Gholston who preceded her in death along with her sister, Judy Ann Gholston. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard E. Rollins; son, Dennis Rollins; other surviving family members, Betty (Johnny) Harrison, Leonard (Anna) and Phillip (Marlin) Rollins; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17 in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Joe Sanders, Ronny Vandergriff and Tyler McCullough officiating with burial to follow in the Palmer Cemetery.
