Girls: Grundy 45 – CCS 43

The Lady Jackets got behind 14-7 in the first quarter and then fought hard to battle back. They trimmed five off that deficit by halftime and took a lead at the end of the third. The final quarter was back and forth but the young squad pulled out the two point district win. “This was a really good district win for us. Everyone played and contributed in one way or another. The team got down early but fought hard to come back and win in the end. Our freshmen players really stepped up and made some things happen on the second half when we really needed them. Madison Burrows hit a three at the end of the third quarter that put us up by three going into the fourth quarter, which gave us the momentum that we needed. I was very happy with how the girls pulled together and battled to the end,” said Coach Julie Davis.

Freshman point guard Madison Rogers led the Lady Jackets with 10 points including a three. Tori Sartain followed with nine including a three. Kristin Hill had eight and also hit a three. Madison Burrows tossed in seven with a three. Kelsey Arbuckle scored five. Peyton Eads had four and Makayla Williams had two.

Boys: CCS 36 – Grundy 27

You rarely see a low scoring, defensive boys game these days but that’s just what Chattanooga Christian had in mind when Grundy came a calling Friday night. They slowed the game down and it became an advantage for them. After a 6-6 first quarter and 15-15 half the Chargers began to inch away in the second half to get the district win.

“I really can’t say we played bad. We didn’t get many calls to go our way but that’s not why we didn’t win. We have to learn to overcome some adversity. We did many things right they just slowed the game down so much on us and we struggled to score when we had opportunities. I’m proud of the guys and the effort they played with tonight,” said Coach Justin Bryant.

Austyn Cooper and Tanner Smartt led Grundy with seven points each with Cooper nailing a three. Levi Miller scored five. Jacob Campbell hit a three pointer. Terrince Bramhall had three points while Hayden Holland scored two.
