KUNZ, HOMER, B., age 99, of Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012. He was born on July 28, 2013, a son of the late John Kunz and Marie M. Stamm Kunz and was preceded in death by his wife, June Kunz. He was a lifelong member of Christ Church Episcopal and a charter member of the Trail Blazers Jeep Club. He was a well-known general contractor and worked for many years with Brice Construction Company, Inc. Survivors include his children, John E. and his wife Anna Lee Kunz of Tracy City; Frederick (Fritz) Kunz of Tracy City; Lynda and her husband, Max Harper of Mt. Juliet, TN; grandchildren, Mary Shelton, Hans Kunz, Jason Harper, Nicolle Nunley, Cara Jones and Emmett Kunz. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 22 at Christ Church Episcopal with The Reverend Dr. Linda A. Hutton officiating. Burial was in City Cemetery in Tracy City. ATTERTON, VICTORIA, ARLENE, 39, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 at her home. She was co-owner of Savage Gulf Meat Processing and attended the Whitwell Church of God. She was born in Apache Junction, AZ on May 16, 1973. MANNING, JUNE, MARIE, 90, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Altamont. She lived in Rossville, Georgia with her husband Benny Manning most of her life and returned to Altamont after his death. She was born in Altamont on June 1, 1922 to Ame and Sallie Givens Dickerson who preceded her in death along with her brothers, Henry and Billy P. Dickerson; sisters, Billie Jean Dickerson, Millie Stone, Nell Gattis, Marzie Childers and Nettie Lockhart. She is survived by her step-daughters, Sue (Jack) Shelton of Chattanooga and Joyce Hixson of Atlanta; granddaughter, Skye; sisters, Frieda McKnight and Marguerite Childers; brother, John (Thelma) Dickerson; a host of loving nieces and nephews. He was born in Palmer on July 14, 1919 to Alex and Susie Meeks Hammers who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Ben, Douglas, F.M., James and Franklin Hammers; sisters, Georgia Sanders, Rosie Keener and Agnes White. He is survived by his sisters, Eva Essary, Illinois; Violet Lofty, Whitell, TN; Myrtle Couey, Boaz, AL; and Dorothy Scott, Altamont, TN; several nieces and nephews. SHRUM, REVEREND, STANLEY, E., age 86, passed away December 26, 2012, peacefully at his home in Tracy City, surrounded by his loving family. Rev. Shrum was born March 17, 1926, in Boyantgon, Georgia, to the late John Lawrence and Nora B. Kilgore Shrum. On July 3, 1947, he was called into ministry. He was the pastor of Laager Congregational Methodist, Bivens Chapel Congregational Methodist, Pryor Ridge Congregational Methodist, and Payne’s Cove Congregational Methodist churches during his ministry.
Reverend Shrum was never one to be idle. He was a self-employed carpenter, and; enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. Outdoors was a favorite place for many reasons, one being the enjoyment he experienced in gardening to provide for his family. Rev. Shrum found gratification in visiting many churches during his lifetime where he was able to share the Gospel and God’s love with the community. He appreciated the joy found in writing about his cherished family as well as his treasured daily life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie M. Nunley Shrum, of 61 years; his parents; brother, Carl Shrum; sister, Elsie I. Scissom; two children, daughter, Judy K. Shrum, and son Joel S. Shrum; one grandson, two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is survived by his eight children including Ralph (Nellie) Shrum, Sue (Charlie) Byers, Roger Shrum, Theresa Parker, Nelda (Billy) Hastings, Troy (Sandy) Shrum all of Tracy City, TN; Keith (Barbara) Shrum of Lake City, FL; and Don (Julie) Shrum of Pensacola, FL; twenty-four grandchildren, forty three great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, six brothers, four sisters and a host of nieces and nephews. JOHNSON, CHARLES, H., “CHUCK,” 86, of Tracy City, TN, passed away at his daughter’s residence on December 28, 2012 in Monteagle, TN. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Tennessee Consolidated Coal Co. He also enjoyed many years of working with Brice Construction Company. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bennie Jean Lankford Johnson; his parents DeWitt and Mary Alma Johnson; brothers, Alton, James and Richard Johnson; brothers-in-law, Herbert Lankford, Harry Long, and Alvin Anderson; sisters-in-law, Grace Lankford, Evelyn Lankford Anderson, and Lucille Lankford Johnson. Survivors include his children Deborah Jean (George) Brady, Hueytown, AL and Charlene (John) Simms, Monteagle, TN; grandchildren, Charles, Benjamin, and Sarah Jean Simms, all of Monteagle, TN; sisters-in-law, Mary Long, Prattville, AL, Mary Lee Johnson, Margaret Johnson, both of Tracy City, TN; several nieces and nephews. RAMSEY, MAGGIE, NOLA, age 82, of the Pocket Community in Whitwell, TN, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andy and Thula Roberson; brothers, Coleman, Jimmy Roberson; sisters, Eliza Norris, Vallie Ramsey and Anna Lou Nunley.
