Glenn Schoenmann of Altamont left Grundy County to fight for our country during the Korean War. Just six months into his service in the Army, he disappeared during the infamous Battle of Chosin Reservoir in Korea in 1950.
Now 62 years later, through DNA samples from Schoenmann’s sister Edna Kilgore, his remains have been identified and will be coming home to rest in his beloved Grundy County.
The Army is expected to give more details soon on how they found Glenn, but they believe he was wounded and died in a POW camp.
